TransCanada’s Williams Lake
Power Plant is North America’s largest Biomass
fueled generating station. The plant uses 600,000 tons
of waste wood annually to generate 68+ Megawatts of
electricity using a GE Steam Turbine. TCPL elected
to replace the existing GE Mark III+ control system
on the turbine with a new system to increase the availability
of parts and service. ICS was awarded a contract for
replacement of the GE Mark III+ control system with
a new STC2000 system.
TCPL scheduled a five week outage in order to perform a mechanical overhaul of
the turbine. ICS delivered the control system upgrade package to support the
scheduled outage. The ICS upgrade package included:
STC2000 Steam Turbine Controller
as a direct replacement for the existing
GE
Mark III+ controller.
Autosynchronizer
Vibration Monitor with stand-alone
protection and status input into the PLC.
Interface
to existing Plant DCS system
Fast-Track Project
(Approx. 3 months from start of engineering to
unit commissioned)
Installation, Loop-Check and Commissioning
Site Services
In addition to equipment and services,
ICS provided a full engineering package including
Control System
Schematics, Demolition and Installation
Instructions
and a complete as-built documentation package. The project
was completed on-schedule in June 0f 2003.
