Installation and Start - Up of Four GE MS70001EA Gas Turbine Control Systems in just 52 Days

Clifton Park, N.Y. November 7, 2009 - Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric Company is a GE Frame 7EA (4 units) combined cycle power plant in Stony Brook Energy Center, MA, USA. MMWEC went out for control retrofit bid in May of 2009.
ICS and GE were the only two companies qualified from the list of bidders based on proven experience and capability on GE 7EA gas turbine upgrading. ICS was awarded the contract on June 30, 2009. Final award was made on price basis.
MMWEC units are peaking operation with a critical 10 minute to base load start requirement. The key points of this retrofit were: Gas Fuel, Liquid Fuel, Mix Fuel, Combined Cycle Operation, Steam Injection, Water Injection, Vibration Sensor Replacement, Flame Sensors Upgrade, and Excitation Upgrade.
During retrofit ICS solved what had been many long standing issues with the original controls as well as incorporated many new features. All four units were returned to service within or ahead of schedule. MMWEC did not incur any penalties from the ISO.
