DIGICON® Control Systems Replacement

Clifton Park, N.Y. September 1, 2009 - Digicon Control systems were manufactured by HSDE (later renamed VT) in the 1980's and 1990's. In common with electronic equipment of this vintage, many of the electronic components are no longer available or supported. VT exited the turbine control market in 2002. To keep their Digicon systems in operation, some users have been forced to look for garage shop repairs or try their hand at repairs themselves. One alternative is to upgrade the Digicon based on our proven TC2000PLUS gas turbine controller.

ICS recently finished the upgrade of three Digicon series II Ace controllers on P&W FT4 turbines at CFE, Baja California, Mexico. ICS installed a direct replacement PLC based system together with new HMI operator interface. the new hardware connected directly to the existing HSDE field J-connector without need for wiring changes. The new controller interfaced directly to the existing HSDE fuel valve.

Alternatively, ICS can replace the fuel valves. Additional features including new control features not available with the original vintage controllers, and enhanced datalogging for improved maintenance were incorporated.

One feature of this replacement is the use of open architecture, off - the- shelf controller hardware, the key to avoiding future obsolescence issues. System installation can be done by customer personel or by ICS technician in a short outage.
